Summary: On boarding the Discovery it became apparent that most of the passengers sailing to the Norwegian Fjords were no first timers to the ship and crew. The Bridge Club has many loyal members that enjoy the combination of a great cruise itinerary and some serious bridge games on sea days. The Yacht Club Restaurant is a must for dinner , you need to pre-book as it fills up really quickly. This restaurant located above the bridge offers sumptuous food and the best sommeliers and attentive waiters I have experienced at sea - this is an optional extra to the dining room.

The guest speakers are one of the best attractions to the Discovery. These experts in the historical, geographical and cultural aspects of the various ports of call offer the most interesting and enriching talks you can wish for. It is worth mentioning that the staterooms are extremely spacious and that the bathrooms are a generous size compared to most cruise lines. Highly recommended for single and couple travellers.

Summary: Just come back from a six day Celtic landscape cruise on the discovery, covering Ireland Cobh and Dublin and Tobermory and Oban in Scotland unfortunately we didn't get to Isle of Man due to extreme rough seas, I must say we had a wonderful time, so good in fact we have booked next years cruise whilst on board, we did a taster 3day cruise with Royal Caribbean on the Independence of the Seas, fantastic 5star floating hotel really got the wow factor however there were so many passengers on board that in the evenings there was nowhere to sit and relax you had to keep walking with your drinks in the hope someone might leave there seats that put us right off. Back to discovery: we have never been to Scotland so we thought we would try this one loads of room to sit , didn't feel like sardines crammed in perfect, the crew were genuine friendly, captain was really amusing at times with his announcements, and the entertainment crew were in my mind did a brilliant job well done Richard, Callum, Raul, Julie, Andy and the rest you deserve medals food was on par with any high grade hotel, cabin was fine lets face it you don't stay in there all day do you, in short, sailing from avonmouth great 30 mins from home, a stop off the ship every day to places I haven't been before, comfortable ship with loads of room to move around in, great entertainment program and really good food. The ship is old and may not be 5 star in looks and opulence, but compared to the Independence of the Seas with the feeling off being cramped and people swarming like ants, Discovery is for me
