Philipsburg is the capital of Dutch St. Maarten. Philipsburg is famous for its landing strip that lies just of the beach, the pictures are amazing. Jet blasts from the planes a mere 10-20 metres of the beach create brilliant artificial waves for the people in the water. The Deep Water Pier was constructed in the late 1950s/ early 60s has been a great addition to its other transportation methods, with all the cruise ships visiting and also local tourists on ferries it is a very popular holiday town.

The main shopping district, Front Street, is in the heart of the city. Philipsburg has a port that is home to many cruise liners, ships like Celebrity Solstice, Crown Princess, Disney Magic, and in 2010 Oasis of the seas will call there. As well as the beach you may decide to take a lovely walk through the town or go on a day trip to a nature park or nearby island. It is a perfect holiday town.
