Columbus is the flagship for traditional British cruise line Cruise and Maritime Voyages. Formerly known as P&O Cruises Arcadia, the explorer-themed cruise ship is dedicated to British cruisers with London Tilbury as her homeport.
Purposely designed and built for deep-sea ocean cruising, Columbus provides an exciting programme of scenic cruises taking British cruisers far and wide. With a length of nearly 250 meters and capacity for approximately 1400 guests, Columbus offers a spacious and relaxing cruising experience.
Columbus boasts 775 passenger cabins, 75% of which provide ocean views. Several Deluxe-balcony cabins are also available. 150 cabins are allocated for single cruisers and with Columbus being an adult-only cruise ship, guests can expect a sophisticated atmosphere onboard.
Following an extensive refit in recent years and further refurbishment in 2017, Columbus now boasts several exciting bars, entertainment and dining venues, as well as featuring exciting itineraries sailing to destinations such as Iceland, Fjordland, Baltic Capitals, Amsterdam, the Canary Islands and even Cuba and the Caribbean.
Guests sailing onboard Columbus can enjoy the pleasure of an array of dining options, including three fine dining venues and two specialty coffee and tea shops. A selection of lounge bars provide the perfect spot to unwind, while the traditional British Pub provides a homely and comfortable spot in which to hang out. Signature Cruise and Maritime venues include:
In keeping with CMV's authentic British style, guests will find a range of speciality tea and chocolate beverages from renowned company Whittard of Chelsea. Choose from an extensive range, and browse the shop for selected gifts to take home.
Guests will love the Columbus Palladium Show Lounge offering ballroom and social dancing events, plus plenty of other entertainment facilities onboard including:
Columbus has a variety of activities to be enjoyed both outside and inside. The two pools are a great place to meet with other guests and cool off in the water, especially as there is a swim-up bar where cruisers can dip their feet in the water and sip on a colourful cocktail. There is also lots of space for sunbathing on the deck so that guests can make the most of the sun while topping up their tan.
Inside, guests can go to Trumps and Aces, the onboard Card Room, where the crew will help organise games of bridge. Alternatively, Crafter’s Studio offers a space to take classes in crafts such as beading, watercolours and calligraphy, all led by an onboard expert.
As well as the organised activities, Columbus is also home to the independent Jade Spa, offering various treatments from around the world, including Thai massages and Indian Ayurvedic. There’s also a thermal suite which has a sauna, steam room and heated stone loungers so that guests can reach maximum levels of relaxation.
Just returned from Northern Lights cruise on the Columbus. Sadly the departure was delayed by 1 day because of storms - unavoidable, but unfortunately resulted in 2 ports being missed out and replaced by 2 sea days. This had a negative impact on the cruise - a shame alternatives could not have been organised, especially as we then had to sail through a serious storm for over 2 days. The ship did cope well will extremely high winds and huge waves. However the rest of the itinerary was wonderful. Despite what other reviews say, the service and food were really excellent. Embarkation and disembarkation both speedy and efficient. The music in all 3 main bars was excepionally good and a real pleasure before and after dinner. The ship was very cold. It was a cruise to the arctic circle, but for 3 days we had thick ice on the INSIDE of the cabin window. No heating in cabin - and public areas were not warm. Complaints not resolved. Despite the negatives, we loved the ship and the trip as a whole.
This was our first cruise to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary. What a wonderful ship nothing was to much trouble for the crew they were all brilliant. My husband is a chef and he said the food was beautiful. The captain is such a nice guy he has time for everyone of his passengers, if you guys are thinking of a cruise the COLUMBUS is the one. I can’t wait for my next cruise, I will become a cruise aholic for sure . I just love this ship, it’s just the right size to enjoy . I must stop as I will just keep talking about her. Thank you Tony fo my superb present, I adored it and need another one soon it must be the same ship .
This was our first cruise, and I can honesty say that we should of done this years ago. The itinerary was changed as the weather was bad in Oslo so the ship arrived in Tilbury later than planned. But it didn't stop them from getting us on board quickly. We had a lovely clean cabin, and our steward Edi was very helpful, even making two swans from towels on our window sill. In all the staff were fantastic, they were very courteous and polite and nothing was to much trouble for them. The food was fantastic and plenty of it, tea was sandwiches, cake and more cake!! Dinner was six courses. The diet went out the window. Cannot wait to book another cruise with them. x
could not fault anything onboard, but our itinery changed because of a delay and we didnt see any fjords as we arrived and left destinations in the dark. most upset because this was our main reason for going!!!
